WESTERLY - U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse said he was reassured to see flood-damaged businesses up and running and urged the town to apply for the latest round of federal aid to support infrastructure repairs.
On Wednesday, the Rhode Island Democrat and Town Manager Steven Hartford toured the North End and Bradford areas hard hit by last April's flooding.
They spoke with business owners - many of whom are still recovering six months later - as rain drops fell steadily.
"It's impressive to watch how these people came back," Whitehouse said, standing on Canal Street. "These places were hit hard. This area was just crushed. And to see it now... it's just impressive how people rallied and got it done."
