Whitehouse and McCain Visiting Vietnam

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse has arrived in Hanoi, Vietnam for the first leg of a trip to Southeast Asia with Senator John McCain.  They will continue traveling in the region in the days ahead.

“Vietnam is a key strategic partner for United States in Asia, and I look forward to meeting with top officials here to discuss issues of shared concern,” said Whitehouse.  “I’m also honored to travel again with Senator McCain.  His time as a prisoner in Vietnam and his subsequent efforts to strengthen the peace and forgiveness between our two nations are an inspiration.”

Additional updates about the trip will be posted on the Senator’s Twitter account: @SenWhitehouse.

Whitehouse and McCain have traveled together regularly in recent years, and last visited Vietnam together in January 2012.  Whitehouse lived in Vietnam for parts of 1972 and 1973 with his father, Charles Whitehouse, who was stationed there as deputy ambassador.
