Whitehouse Statement on 10th Anniversary of 9/11

Providence, RI – U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse released the below statement today regarding the ten year anniversary of September 11, 2001:

“Ten years after the tragic events of September 11th my thoughts and prayers are with the families of those lost on that day, and with our servicemembers who continue to serve so honorably abroad.  All of us will forever remember that day as a time when our nation changed, but also as a time of common purpose and renewed patriotism.  Today, as we honor the memories of friends and heroes who fell on 9/11, I encourage Rhode Islanders to participate in the national moment of silence to remember those first responders and servicemembers lost in the response to the attacks, including the 24 Rhode Islanders killed in action over the past decade.  Together we can show the world that we have not forgotten, and that our American spirit endures.”

There will be a national Moment of Remembrance observed at 1:00 p.m. EDT today.
