Washington, DC – On Friday, U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Courts Subcommittee, released the third episode of season two of his podcast, Making the Case. In the new episode, Whitehouse is joined by Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD), Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee, to discuss the fallout from the Trump administration’s cover-up of the Epstein files, Congressional Republicans acquiescing to President Trump’s attacks on the rule of law, and an emerging bright spot at the Supreme Court.
“Last week marked six months of President Trump’s second term, and the guardrails of our democracy are shaking. The judicial confirmation process of the lawless Emil Bove has brought the Senate to a new low. Justice Jackson’s dissents are deftly pointing out the anti-democratic mischief around the Supreme Court. Gerrymandering and voter suppression efforts are gaining steam. And MAGA is melting down over President Trump’s name appearing in the Epstein files,” said Whitehouse. “Before Speaker Johnson shut down the House early for August recess to flee questions about Trump and Epstein, Congressman Raskin – one of the House’s most able defenders of our democracy – joined Making the Case to help me break down the five-alarm Trumpster fire engulfing D.C.”
The third episode of season two of Making the Case is now available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and YouTube.
Whitehouse and Raskin have long advocated for improving transparency and accountability in the federal judiciary and in American politics. Whitehouse and Raskin have collaborated on legislation to close a major loophole in campaign finance law that allows U.S. companies appreciably owned by foreign entities to pour unlimited sums of money into American elections. Whitehouse and Raskin also carried out a joint investigation into Big Oil for its decades-long disinformation campaign to mislead the public about the effects of fossil fuels and to obstruct climate action.
