Reed & Whitehouse Announce Selection Process for U.S. Attorney, U.S. Marshal, & RI State Director of the Farm Service Agency

PROVIDENCE, RI — In response to inquiries regarding federally appointed U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) positions in Rhode Island, U.S. Senators Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse today outlined their process for ensuring that there is a talented pool of highly-qualified applicants for the positions of U.S. Attorney, U.S. Marshal, and Rhode Island State Director of the Farm Service Agency.

All interested applicants should send a cover letter and resume via e mail to Senator Reed’s office by February 22, 2021 using the corresponding e mail address:

Applications submitted via the U.S. Postal Service and post marked prior to February 22 may be sent to: 1000 Chapel View Boulevard, Suite 290, Cranston, RI 02920

The goal is a merit-based process that identifies highly-qualified and experienced candidates for these federal positions who will serve the people of Rhode Island with professionalism, integrity, and distinction.

The U.S. Attorney serves as the state’s top federal law enforcement official.

Rhode Island’s U.S. Marshal oversees federal courthouse security, witness protection, and the transport of federal prisoners.

The Executive Director of the state Farm Service Agency administers federal farm programs that help Rhode Island’s agricultural producers remain economically viable, including farm commodity, credit, conservation, disaster, and loan programs.

Working with President Biden, Reed and Whitehouse will recommend highly-qualified Rhode Islanders who are eligible to serve in these federal positions. It is customary for the President to ask U.S. Senators for recommendations for appointments in their state, although ultimately it is the President’s responsibility to nominate a candidate who must then be confirmed by the U.S. Senate.

The Senators expressed gratitude for the exemplary service of U.S. Attorney Aaron Weisman and U.S. Marshal Wing Chau.

The FSA Director position is currently being filled in an acting capacity.
