Washington, DC – U.S. Senators Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and John Barrasso (R-WY) announced that the Senate has designated May 11 through May 17, 2025 as National Hospital Week. The resolution, which unanimously passed in the Senate, honors the significant role that hospitals and hospital staff play in the delivery of health care to patients across the United States.
“This National Hospital Week, we’re celebrating our nation’s hardworking hospital workers, who deliver heroic care and change lives every day,” said Senator Whitehouse. “I’m continuing to fight on behalf of doctors, nurses, and staff in Rhode Island hospitals and push for a health care system that works better for all Americans.”
“During National Hospital Week, we honor the dedication and service of our nation’s hospital workers,”said Senator Barrasso. “Doctors, nurses, and support staff deliver critical care and comfort to patients when it matters most. In Wyoming and in rural communities across the country, we rely on these professionals every day, and we are deeply grateful for their commitment to keeping us healthy.”
Last year, hospitals employed nearly 6.6 million individuals, including nurses, physicians, allied health professions, sanitation and food service workers, and many others. Hospitals in Rhode Island employ over 35,000 workers.
“During National Hospital Week, and every week, we recognize Rhode Island’s hospitals, health systems and their dedicated teams for the exceptional, around the clock care they provide to people in our communities,” said Howard Dulude, interim president of the Hospital Association of Rhode Island. “With so much on the line for health care, it is more important than ever to sustain strong investments in our hospitals so they can continue delivering the care our families, friends and neighbors rely on. We commend Senator Whitehouse and Senator Barrasso for their resolution honoring the significant contributions of hospitals nationwide.”
The resolution is cosponsored by Senators Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), Angus King (I-ME), Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Roger Wicker (R-MS).
