Whitehouse Encourages Seniors to Take Advantage of Medicare Open Enrollment Period

Website Lists Resources to Help Beneficiaries Choose Plans

Providence, RI – U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse has prepared a special web page with resources for Rhode Islanders on Medicare who are making decisions about their coverage during the Medicare Open Enrollment period. Open Enrollment, which ends this year on December 7th, is the one time each year that Medicare beneficiaries can review the Medicare policy choices available for the coming year and choose the one that is right for them.

Whitehouse’s Medicare Open Enrollment Resources page can be found at whitehouse.senate.gov/OpenEnrollment.

“Medicare can make a big difference for you and your family. That’s why I’ve been fighting—and will keep fighting—to preserve Medicare benefits in Congress,” Whitehouse said in a video message to Rhode Islanders on the website. “Please don’t hesitate to take advantage of these resources before Medicare Open Enrollment ends on December 7th.”

Medicare health and drug plan benefits and costs can change each year. Beneficiaries have the opportunity to review their coverage every year during Open Enrollment, and look at other plans in their area to see if one may be a better choice for them. Visitors to Sen. Whitehouse’s Medicare Open Enrollment Resources page can download information, search for plans by zip code, or find information on free Open Enrollment events across Rhode Island. Individuals who wish to keep their current plan, if it is still being offered in 2012, don’t need to do anything for enrollment to continue.
