Whitehouse Statement on Administration Policy to Combat Organized Crime Abroad

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) today released the following statement regarding the Obama Administration’s newly announced Strategy to Combat Transnational Organized Crime, which aims to crack down on organized crime across the globe.

“Criminal organizations operating from other countries threaten American families, businesses, and taxpayers through fraud, intellectual property theft, trafficking, cybercrime, and violent crime.  The Administration’s comprehensive strategy to combat these dangerous organizations is an important recognition of the threat these criminals pose to our safety and prosperity, and the need for a coordinated response.  I look forward to working with the Administration and Senators on both sides of the aisle on legislation to ensure that law enforcement has access to every appropriate tool during the investigations and prosecutions ahead.”

Whitehouse is chairman of the Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism.
