Washington, DC – Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Chairman of the Senate Judiciary Courts Subcommittee, released the following statement regarding his meeting this morning with President Biden’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson:

“Judge Jackson is an experienced judge, has a brilliant legal mind, and is committed to the Constitution and the rule of law. I was pleased to speak with such a qualified nominee about the importance of a Supreme Court that safeguards justice for all Americans, and about the special interests trying to capture the Court to serve their own purposes.

“I was also pleased to meet with a nominee who comes before us on the strength of her qualifications and experience, not on the endorsement of a right-wing donor operation aimed at capturing the Supreme Court. Judge Jackson’s nomination stands in sharp contrast to that of the three Republican justices jammed onto the Court during Donald Trump’s presidency. I applaud President Biden on the thorough and independent process he followed to select Judge Jackson.”
