Whitehouse Statement on Regan for EPA Administrator

Washington, DC – Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), a senior member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, released the following statement on President-elect Joe Biden’s selection of North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality Secretary Michael Regan to serve as Environmental Protection Agency Administrator:

“The end of polluter capture of the Environmental Protection Agency is in sight. Mr. Regan is no fossil fuel lobbyist or dark money fundraiser; he’s fought polluting industries to protect the communities they harm. Picking him signals a return to the core mission of the agency—defending our environment in service of the health and safety of the American people.

“The Biden administration faces massive environmental challenges, especially climate change. To avoid calamity, Biden’s team will need to act with urgency and a willingness to fight against the big polluters that have stymied progress to this point. I look forward to learning more about Mr. Regan’s battle plans for the fights ahead.”
