Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) today issued the following statement after Senate Republicans passed a rescissions package in the middle of the night cutting over $9 billion in government funding that was previously approved on a bipartisan basis:
“The Trump administration and Republicans in Congress have weaponized the rescissions tool to defund their perceived political enemies – public radio, Sesame Street, and starving children overseas. This vote was a test case for the months ahead. Republicans are now sure to aim their new partisan rescissions missile at other once-bipartisan priorities, blowing up the regular appropriations process in the Senate and yielding their power to the unelected DOGE-boys and creepy anti-government radicals in the Trump administration.”
