Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Ranking Member of the Senate Judiciary Courts Subcommittee, released the tenth episode of season two of his podcast, Making the Case. In the new episode, Whitehouse is joined by U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Whitehouse and Blumenthal are both former state attorneys general and U.S. Attorneys.
Whitehouse and Blumenthal unpack the corruption demonstrated by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche – President Trump’s hatchet man behind the Trump/Epstein files cover-up, the cop-beaters slush fund, and a sleazy tax fraud amnesty deal for the Trump family – as he pursues confirmation as Attorney General. The senators also reveal a series of disturbing firsts facing the courts as a result of Blanche’s fealty to the President: the previously unheard-of credible allegations that senior DOJ officials committed a fraud upon the court and the unprecedented number of statements by courts across the country that DOJ has lost a presumption of regularity.

Whitehouse sent a letter this week to Blanche and Federal Bureau of Prisons Director William Marshall demanding more information on their transfer of Ghislaine Maxwell to a minimum-security facility immediately following Blanche’s meetings with Maxwell. In November, Whitehouse, Blumenthal, and Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) filed a FOIA request to DOJ seeking records related to the Maxwell transfer. The Senators also submitted FOIA requests to the Department of Justice seeking records related to:
- The now-closed investigation of Tom Homan;
- Any Office of Professional Responsibility investigation into former DOJ official Emil Bove;
- Director Patel’s still undisclosed and immunized grand jury testimony;
- Suspicious activity reports related to Jeffrey Epstein and his associates;
- DOJ’s White House contacts policy;
- DOJ’s disbanding of anti-kleptocracy initiatives;
- DOJ’s attempt to rescind obligated money under the Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund;
- Investigations into threats against judges spurred by Elon Musk and Laura Loomer;
- DOJ’s hiring of Jared Wise;
- DOJ’s meritless ethics complaint against Chief Judge Boasberg;
- Communications between DOJ political appointees and Trump-appointed judges who have thwarted contempt inquiries involving DOJ; and
- President Trump’s acceptance of a Qatari jet plane.
The Department has failed to respond to the requests.
Acting Attorney General Blanche is set to appear before the Judiciary Committee for a nomination hearing on July 15.
