Whitehouse Statement on Biden Address to Congress

Washington, DC – Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) released the following statement on President Biden’s joint address to Congress tonight marking Biden’s first 100 days in office:

“Tonight, the president delivered a hopeful report on the great progress we’ve made during his first 100 days in office, and charted an equally hopeful path for a lasting, fair economic recovery after the pandemic.

“I’m pleased to see the president follow the success of his COVID relief bill with two important proposals: one to create jobs and rebuild our crumbling infrastructure, and another unveiled tonight to get families back on their feet and thriving in life after COVID. His families plan will help parents and children with support like extending the child tax credit, child care aid, expanded pre-K, and strengthening the Affordable Care Act. He will pay for these investments by requiring large corporations and the wealthy to pay a fairer share of taxes. Those are all much-needed changes. I applaud President Biden on the success of his first 100 days; I look forward to rebuilding our economy for the benefit of all Americans; and I intend to assure that real climate progress is achieved.”
